The Morrison Bridge will be closed to all users on Sunday, Feb. 27 from 7 a.m. until as late as 4 p.m. while a Multnomah County crew completes annual maintenance tasks and minor deck repairs. The drawbridge will be in the open position during much of the work. The closure will impact motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. The Hawthorne and Burnside bridges are good alternate routes during the closure.

While the bridge is closed a contractor will also install signs and adjust lane striping on the eastside viaduct that primarily impacts TriMet buses. The buses are being re-routed to avoid a weight-restricted section of the bridge above SE Water Ave. that will be repaired in 2024.

During the closure ramps between the bridge and Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 will be closed, except for the ramp from the Morrison Bridge westbound to I-5 north. While the I-5 southbound City Center/Morrison Bridge off-ramp (exit 300) will be closed, the I-5 southbound ramp to Highway 99E/U.S. 26 will remain open. Motorists can access I-84 eastbound at NE Grand Avenue and NE Everett Street.

Navigating the closure

To access downtown Portland from the freeways during the closure, I-5 southbound drivers can exit at the Rose Quarter/Broadway Bridge and I-84 westbound drivers can exit at Rose Quarter/Weidler exits.

TriMet’s #15 Belmont bus route will detour to the Hawthorne Bridge during the closure.

In addition, the contractor for the County’s Morrison Bridge painting project will close the westbound ramp from the bridge to SW Naito Parkway starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 through as late as Monday, March 14.  A portion of the outside (north) westbound lane east of the ramp will also be closed.  The closure will allow the contractor to install a work platform and containment system under the western river span.

While the ramp is closed, westbound traffic will exit the bridge at SW Washington St. and SW 2nd Ave. Bridge users can access SW Naito Parkway via SW 2nd Ave. to SW Harvey Milk St. to SW Naito Parkway.  The north sidewalk on the bridge is closed during the project.

The ramp from SW Naito Parkway to the Morrison Bridge eastbound closed in January and will reopen by the end of April.
