The Joint Office of Homeless Services (JOHS) has reviewed the most recent National Weather Service Forecast, and due to high temperatures, the following cooling centers and cooling spaces will be open Thursday, Aug. 12 through 9am Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021.

COVID-19 precautions will be in place to the extent possible, while prioritizing the immediate risk of life-threatening heat. Staff and volunteers at cooling centers will be masked. Guests will be asked to put on a mask when they are cool enough to do so. Individuals who require power for medical devices should consider one of the cooling centers, as libraries will not have electrical hookups.

No one will be turned away.

Anyone seeking cooling resources should contact 211info. 211info staff are available 24/7 to identify cooling resources and review transportation options for Multnomah County.

Community members are asked to be vigilant watching out for their neighbors in need. Anyone who has concerns about someone who appears to be unprepared for the hot weather and does not seem to be capable of caring for themselves should call Police Non-Emergency (503-823-3333) and request a “welfare check.” If it appears that the person’s situation is mental health-related, the Mental Health Crisis Line can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 503-988-4888. If the situation appears to present an imminent risk to the person’s health or safety, dial 911.

COOLING SITES

TriMet encourages anyone who needs relief from the heat to take public transit to and from a cooling site, even if they can't pay fare. No one will be denied a ride. Anyone who needs transportation support to a cooling center can also dial 2-1-1. View this interactive map of cooling centers, cool spaces and splash pads for the location nearest you.
