Marie Smith was born in Ethelsville, Ala. on Oct. 17, 1927 to Abbie and Joe Bush.
She moved from Alabama to St. Louis, and then to Vanport, Ore. in the 1940s. She lived there until the flood forced her to move to North Portland, where she worked for Emanuel Hospital and then transferred to Kaiser. After this, she became self employed and opened her first of four "Marie's Kitchen" restaurants. After she opened her second kitchen, she then employed herself at Tektronix, as she continued her personal business venture with the kitchens. While doing this she became a mother to Jessie (Pamela), Larry, Diann, and Lennon. Her son Larry and her grandsons Larry, Jr. and Ronnie preceded her in death. She left behind 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 9 Great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a funeral 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010 at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 NE Fremont, Portland.
