CANTON, Ga. (AP) -- Investigators believe a Georgia girl found dead three days after disappearing from her apartment complex was taken to a nearby vacant apartment, where she was sexually assaulted, stabbed and beaten to death.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan said Tuesday investigators believe the killer lives in the apartment complex or has regular access it. No suspects are in custody.
Police say Jorelys Rivera was last seen Friday at a playground in the apartment complex in Canton, north of Atlanta. Her body was found Monday in a trash container.
Investigators say they're continuing to pursue leads, and a $15,000 reward has been issued.
Keenan said that evidence collected from the child's body and the apartment are being tested. He said they hoped to have preliminary DNA results by later Tuesday.
