Police have identified the man killed early Saturday morning at Northeast 13th Avenue and Rosa Parks Way, as Marcus Deangelo Miller, 40. Miller (pictured) died from multiple gunshot wounds.
His death adds another layer of tragedy to the disappearance of 14-year-old Yashanee Vaughn. Miller had a son with Ms. Shaquita Louis, the missing girl's mother. Friends and family are rallying around a family hit by two severe losses. The family also is connected to Shalamar Edmond, the teen shot in North Portland just two weeks ago.
Police have charged 16-year-old Parrish Bennette with murdering Yashanee Vaughn, but her body has not been found. Ms. Louis has appealed for anyone with information about what happened to her daughter to disclose it to Crimestoppers,(503-823-4357) anonymously if necessary.
Detectives say they don't know if Miller's death had anything to do with recent gang shootings. Police said in a statement that Miller had connections to gangs in the past, but it is not known if this had anything to do with his death.
A suspect wearing tan clothing was reported running south on NE 13th from Rosa Parks Way.
Detectives are encouraging anyone with information to contact Detective Kristina Coffey at 503-823-0833 or Detective Mark Sponhauer at 503-823-0416.
The fatal shooting was one of three shootings reported to Portland police this weekend. A woman was injured at the 82nd Avenue Bar and Grill, at Southeast 82nd and Raymond, shortly after midnight Saturday.
Northeast Portland resident Grace Anne Essy, 32, was shot several times in her left leg in the parking lot of the bar. She was later released from hospital after treatment.
Police say they do not believe that Essy, who has no ties to gangs, was the intended target, as there were gang associates in the parking lot.
