But many Americans know very little about a group of schools that educated hundreds of thousands of Black children and are their own key piece of Black history. From 1913 to 1932, nearly 5,000 "Rosenwald schools" were built in 15 states, mostly in rural Southern communities...

It looks like the tragic police killing of Aaron Campbell has opened a pipeline of ideas and dialogue that could lead to change. We certainly hope so. Last week we wrote about why not to call the police. This week we want to offer some specific solutions.

Many people believe that donating to a large relief agency is the best way to help Haiti. In fact, those agencies do have a critical role to play, though, the problem is that most big relief operations are designed to swoop into a crisis, deliver services and leave.

As a result of tough crime policies and a discriminatory War on Drugs program, thousands of Black Americans have taken a fall from which they can't get up. Racial disparities in education, jobs and social practices all contribute to Blacks' presence among America's booming prison population...
