On March 17, 1929 Nettie Shepherd was born in Columbus, Miss., to the union of Frank Mitchell Sr. and Jennie Moody-Mitchell.
She attended school in Columbus, Miss.;
Nettie went to College majoring in Writing and received a Batchelors of Art Degree. Returing in later years for a passion she loved so well by furthering her education at Portland Community College in Portland, Ore.
After graduating from college in earlier years she started a family. A writer who was so talented with writing short stories, which she read to them.
When she moved to Portland in 1974 she became a member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church. After losing two of her children, she became a member of Mothers Against Violence.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Rosalyn Layton (Ronnie) of Los Angeles, CA, Walter Harrison (Rhonda), Keith Shepherd (Cynthia), Toren Shepherd (Christy) and Samuel Shepherd (Pat) all of Portland, OR, and Rodney Shepherd (Nadine) of Sacramento, CA, and Tyra Hammond (Greg) of Tacoma, WA; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
