James will be remembered as the soft spoken, hard-headed criminal defense attorney who treated everyone from janitors to judges with the same respect and wry humor and oh, he smiled!

James was a tender, smart, wise, funny, and sometimes aggravating, and it might be true the he made the best ribs in six counties. Colleagues say James could always find the laugh in a pile of misery and they will tell stories about him for years to come. They will talk about his wit, his infectious laughter, and his intense devotion to his son and his family—and they will miss him.

To his family, James was always the patriarch—the big brother. The person who could always give you advice and make you feel as though everything was alright. James loved them all more than they will ever know.
