President Donald Trump’s administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow enforcement of a ban on transgender people in the military even as legal challenges proceed. The high court filing ollows a brief order from a federal judge in Tacoma, Washington that kept in place a court order blocking the policy nationwide. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a policy that presumptively disqualifies transgender people from military service, after the Republican president signed an executive order claiming the sexual identity of transgender service members is harmful to military readiness. Several transgender military members have challenged the ban, saying their firing would cause lasting damage to their careers and reputations

The Republican-controlled Senate has approved a budget framework that includes multitrillion-dollar tax breaks and spending cuts. The plan would cut taxes for about three-quarters of households but raise them for about 10%. In 2027, about 45% of the benefit of all the tax cuts would go to those making roughly $450,000 or more, according to the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, which analyzes tax issues.

Oregon and Washington are the latest states to ask a court to reject President Donald Trump’s elections order, a day after Democratic officials in 19 others filed a similar lawsuit. The lawsuit says that under the constitution states - not the federal government - have the right to set election rules. The states say Trump's order would harm thousands of eligible voters who lack the required documents as well as voters who mail their ballots.
