BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) -- Police searching for a missing 2-year-old Bellevue, Wash., boy are testing a shoe and driving the car the mother said ran out of gas before she left him inside.

However, authorities say there was gas in the car and the test drive early Friday was to show if there was some other mechanical problem.

Spokeswoman Carla Iafrate (ee-uh-FRAH'-tay) says police may release more information Friday. They might also have results of forensic testing on a small shoe that was found Thursday night about five blocks from where the car was left on Sunday.

Police are asking the mother, Julia Biryukova, to voluntarily respond to discrepancies in her story. She says she left Sky Metalwala alone when she went for gas and he was gone when she came back.
