The new Portland Parents Union hosts an informational gathering Saturday, Oct. 10, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Curious Comedy Theater, 5225 NE MLK Jr. Blvd.
Organizers say they've formed the PPS Parent Union to help families be empowered, and help them learn more about resources for your children and family in their schools and community.
The goal is to give parents representation and a collective voice that is equal to teachers' representation in their professional union.
"We will be a centralized group of parents and families connected to the resources and supports necessary to be powerful advocates for our children and for each other, and ultimately for positive institutional changes and the greater common good," the new union said in a statement.
