The Bethel AME Church hosts a musical tribute to Edgar (Ed) Mitchell, who will be the guest of honor, Sunday, Jan. 4 starting at 3:30 p.m. at 5828 NE 8th St. A reception will follow. Performers include the Bethel Cathedral Choir, the Men's Choir, and the De La Salle Choir. Mitchell is the much-loved former vocalist of many years for the Cathedral Choir who has recently fallen ill. He is retired from teaching at Adams High School and Fort Vancouver, where he was a drug and alcohol counselor. Mitchell was once diagnosed with a throat ailment in which his doctor predicted he would never sing again – but he recovered fully and sang for many years afterward. The public is invited to attend. For more information call Bethel AME Church at 503-288-5429.
