In coordination with the performance art group tEEth, the Time-Based Art Festival will be home to the art event, "Occurance" from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Leftbank, 240 N. Broadway.
"Occurrence" is an alternative performance and film event curated by Reggie Watts and his frequent collaborator and playwright Tommy Smith. Occurrence invites innovative performers to play short sets — a kind of alternative talent show, as performers improvise pieces while sharing the stage with Watts' and Smith's self-produced comedy "DumbFilms." The evening culminates with Reggie's own incomparable, genre-warping performance, where music and comedy meet and implode.
Reggie Watts made his name playing and singing in the band Maktub, a central part of the Seattle music scene throughout the 1990s. Embarking on his solo career in 2004, Watts has focused on developing a unique comedic style that synthesizes elements from R&B, beatboxing, alternative theatre and video. A prolific artist, Watts has completed projects with The Yes Men, collaborated with SOULLIVE and Yunchen Lhamo.
