Ohio's first Black Congressional Representative is reportedly in critical condition after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Wednesday. Democratic Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, 58, was driving her car when an aneurysm burst. Police had seen the car driving erratically and swerve across multiple lanes before stopping, according to police.
Several news organizations reported wrongly that the congresswoman had died. According to news reports, she has very limited brain function.
Tubbs Jones was elected in 1998 and serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee, the first Black woman to do so. She supported Hillary Clinton throughout the primaries. She was going to be a superdelegate at the Democratic National Convention next week in Denver and was reportedly backing Barack Obama.
