In conjunction with the Center for Multicultural Health and the Swedish Breast Care Express, Curves on Rainier will host a Heath Awareness Event, Saturday, March 8 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Curves is located at 5508 Rainier Ave. S.
The free health Heath Fair is an opportunity for members of the community to come and gather information about many health subjects from a variety of practitioners. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to participate in a number of heath screenings including a mammogram and cervical cancer screenings.
The Breast and Cervical Health Program and The Center for Multicultural Health, provides eligible women with free yearly women's health exams. The criteria to receive the mammogram and pap tests are:
• You are 40 years or older
• Uninsured or have insurance that does not cover your full health care services
• Have limited income
The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund has awarded a $27,300 one-year grant to the Center for Multicultural Health to increase awareness of the life-saving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. The Center for Multicultural Health has received Avon Foundation funding for its work since 2003 and in recognition of the excellence of the program.
While advances have been made in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure, early detection still affords the best opportunity for successful treatment. The Center for Multicultural Health works to insure that the women in our community are aware of this life saving information and are aware of the free or low cost services in the Seattle/King County area.
"We are proud that the Avon Foundation shares our mission and has chosen to support our program," said Eudora Carter, breast and cervical cancer health program coordinator at The Center for Multicultural Health. "With these funds we will be able to bridge the gap to quality health care for the women in our community."
The number of appointments available on Saturday are limited so call today. To schedule an appointment, or to see if you're eligible for the free Women's Health Exam with Mammogram and Pap test, contact Eudora Carter, 206-461-6910 ext. 218.
