2013 Rose Festival Princesses

The Rose Festival begins Friday, May 24. Highlights of this year's festivities include the Queen's Coronation and the honoring of the WHL Champion Portland Winterhawks.

The 2013 Grand Marshal of the Rose Festival is Gerry Frank, an author, speaker, veteran, statesman, businessman, volunteer and a fourth-generation Oregonian. He currently serves as the President of Frankly Speaking, Inc. and Senior Advisor at Aequitas Capital Management, Inc. Frank served as Chief of Staff to former United States Senator Mr. Mark O. Hatfield for 20 years and has often been referred to as "Oregon's third Senator." He was named the first-ever 'Oregon Premier Citizen' by gubernatorial proclamation.

Rose Festival CityFair will be open for three full weekends starting Memorial Day Weekend. The metropolitan fair features local beer, live exotic animals, shopping, rides, special attractions and fireworks. Regular admission for the CityFair is $7 for ages seven and over.

One of the main attractions of CityFair is "The Big Sling." This human catapult slings riders nearly 25 stories high and is considered the highest flying ride in the Pacific Northwest.

"A Walk on the Wild Side" is an exhibit that brings a mix of exotic mammals, birds, reptiles and spiders. Its presence will help fund an animal rescue program and 40-acre country sanctuary.

The food court will include barbecue, Hawaiian, deserts, hamburgers, pizza, and other options.

Also, this year's fair will feature two nights of fireworks. First, the festivities will kick-off with the Opening Night RoZone Fireworks Experience on May 24. The second show, Grand Floral Fireworks presented by CityTarget, will be held on Jun. 7.

Other activities include the 35th installment of the Legacy Health Starlight Run, which will be held on Jun. 1. It's the largest fun-run in Oregon and participants will be vying for prizes for best costume. Registration is $15 per person for adults, $10 per youth ages 7-12, and $5 for kids six and under. The Starlight Run will also be charging $15 for t-shirts and adding an extra $5 for entry fees after May 20.

The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade will also be held on Jun. 1. This year's Grand Marshals are the Portland Winterhawks who recently won the WHL Finals. The Grand Marshal title is to recognize their accomplishment.
