Portland State University's Student Recreation Center is collecting used tennis shoes to recycle as a way to show support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

"It was important for us, at Campus Rec, to find a way that would both show our support for those affected by the events in Boston and also offer a way to give back," said Alex Accetta, director of campus recreation.

Donations will be accepted through April 30 at the PSU Academic and Student Rec Center, 1800 SW Sixth Ave (second floor at Member Services), Portland, OR. Give your used pair of shoes to the Member Services staff and they will be displayed through the end of April.

"In our mission to serve students' health and well-being through recreation, such as running, we thought that Nike's "ReUse Shoe" recycling program was a great fit and a way of trying to make something positive out of this tragedy."

The used shoes will be donated to Nike's "ReUSE a Shoe" recycling program. Nike turns them into athletic surfaces like tracks, playgrounds, and new shoes.
