It's time to come out of the house and meet the neighbors during National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1.Several neighborhood associations throughout Portland are planning festivities, from parades to ice cream socials, in order to meet their neighbors. The theory behind the "night out": Neighbors who know each other have safer neighborhoods.Neighbors' Night Out at Fernhill Park will begin with a community parade starting at 6 p.m. from Faubion Elementary School, 3039 N.E. Portland Blvd.Everyone is welcome to be in the parade and a special decoration station for bikes, strollers and other entries will open at 5 p.m. at Faubion. The parade will travel from Faubion to Fernhill Park where the festivities will continue.Entertainment at Fernhill Park begins at 6:30 pm when Leapin' Louie Lichtenstein takes the stage and displays his special mix of cowboy tricks, unicycling, juggling and more. At 7:30 p.m., local musicians Sneakin' Out will unleash their "post-apocalyptic electro-acoustic throw-down."Throughout the evening, activities for kids and adults -- including henna tattoos and balloon art -- are planned, as well as food and special giveaways from local businesses. All entertainment and activities are free and open to the public.Neighbors' Night Out at Fernhill Park is organized by the Concordia Neighborhood Association.
