Edward Nethers Scarborough, 70, was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Birmingham, Ala., and passed away July 1 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. The second of four children born to Naymon and Mary Scarborough, Ed's family moved to Portland in the late 1940s. He attended Holladay Elementary School and graduated from Washington High School in 1958.
In 1951, Ed's father started a family business, Scarborough's Oil, where Ed worked during his youth and into adulthood. Ed took over the business in 1988, fondly renaming it Dad's Oil after his father. He worked the business until his retirement in 2006. With his million-dollar smile and personality to match, he made friends every day. He loved life and tried to live it to the fullest, always smiling and never complaining.
Not only was he a successful businessman, he was a devoted and loving husband, great father, and a wonderful son, brother, and friend. Ed is survived by his mother, Zelma; wife, Katye; children, Tina Wade (Daniel), Angela, Craig Woods (Keake), and Lynnetta; sister, Phyllis Ardery (John); grandchildren, Da`Love, Craig, Nanea, Tara Danielle, Milan, and Shawn "Harold"; aunt, Noretta Millhouse of Birmingham; nieces; nephews; and a host of family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Highland Christian Center, 7600 N.E. Glisan St., Portland, OR 97213.
