A young African American man was shot and killed by police last night following a traffic stop near the Lloyd Center. The suspect also allegedly shot and wounded a police officer.
According to a witness account posted on The Portland Mercury's website, police stopped the man and then an argument ensued.
"The cops tazed him a ton and he was shouting and screaming back. Then one shot was fired and then a whole shit ton of shots were fired…" writes witness Christina Lais.
A multi-block quadrant around the shooting was blocked off for several hours after the shooting, and a black body bag could be seen from the area where media were being kept. The Skanner was on the scene about an hour after the shooting, but details about the shooting were not revealed to media at the scene.
Police are holding a press conference at 11 a.m. this morning, so stay tuned for updates.
