On March 5, Heleen  RedBird was named a princess of this year's court. Heleen is a junior at Roosevelt High School and expects to graduate next June. After graduation, Heleen will pursue a career in law and anthropology.

The Rose Festival Court includes 15 outstanding students from Portland, Metro East, and Metro West high schools. The court provides higher education scholarships funded by The Randall Group, promotes volunteerism, facilitates networking, and encourages an appreciation for the history and traditions of the Portland Rose Festival. Throughout the season, the court will travel across the state to learn, volunteer, and participate in community and Rose Festival events.

Heleen joins the court representing herself, her school, and her community. “I want to represent my school and community because I know representation matters.” Says Heleen. “I am Black and Native American, and I will be a first-generation high school graduate.”

Looking ahead to the Portland Rose Festival, Heleen’s favorite event of the season is the Grand Floral Parade. She says, “My favorite Rose Festival event is the Grand Floral Parade. I love seeing how all the different flowers are used for the floats.”
