PORTLAND, OR—Planetizen has named Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) the 54th most influential urbanist, past and present.

Planetizen wrote Blumenauer is “one of the federal government's most ardent supporters of alternative transportation, through public transit and bike infrastructure, [and] sustainability initiatives.” The distinction comes just a week after Blumenauer hosted U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in East Portland for a tour of critical transportation and infrastructure investments in our community, including efforts to revitalize Lower Albina and 82nd Avenue.

Blumenauer is one of three Oregonians listed and the only sitting member of Congress included. He ranked 54th, an increase from his ranking of 81st in 2017.

Planetizen is a fiercely independent platform that creates, curates, and amplifies stories and resources to inform planning and people passionate about planning.
