Larsen to Host Telephone Town Hall on Climate Change

EVERETT, WA – On Thursday, April 21, U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will host a live telephone town hall on environmental issues facing Northwest Washington and efforts to fight climate change. Experts from the Washington State Department of Transportation and the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group will join Larsen to hear constituents’ concerns and answer questions.

A senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Larsen supported the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), a bipartisan law that includes bold, long-term provisions to build a cleaner and greener transportation network, such as:

• $2.34 billion for low- or zero-emission bus grants for local bus transit agencies like Everett Transit and the Whatcom Transportation Authority
• $250 million for a pilot initiative to help states and localities purchase electric or low-emission ferries and construct related infrastructure
• Federal funding for Second District communities to reduce traffic congestion and pollution, improve safety and equity for all road users and increase mobility

 Larsen strongly supports meaningful efforts to combat climate change, including:

• Investing $555 billion over 10 years to cut pollution, reduce energy costs and create well-paying jobs to ensure the United States leads the clean energy economy
• Establishing a nationwide 300,000+ member Climate Conservation Corps that puts Washingtonians to work conserving public lands, bolstering local resilience and addressing climate change
• Extending and expanding clean energy tax credits to invest more than $300 billion to support clean energy investments and deployment, improve energy efficiency and encourage vehicle electrification
• $10 billion for the full replacement of lead pipes in drinking systems throughout the country.
