Westbound traffic on the Morrison Bridge is impacted by a bridge painting project starting this week and lasting through April. Beginning March 2, one westbound lane is closed from the east entrance to the bridge at SE Grand Ave. to SW 2nd Ave. downtown.  Over the river the outside (north) westbound lane is also closed on the bridge, leaving just one westbound lane open across the river.

The lane closures will allow a contractor working for Multnomah County to install a work platform under the west river span and set up a containment structure for the paint work. In order to keep the work zone under the bridge deck dry, the contractor has installed rubber covers over the expansion joints in the bridge deck.  Signs have been installed to warn drivers of these temporary bumps in the traffic lanes.

Ramps to and from the freeway remain open. However, ramps to and from the bridge from SW Naito Parkway are both closed until later in March and April.

Steel bridges are repainted to prevent structural steel from corroding and losing strength. The project will identify and repair areas of steel that have corroded. Work will continue in 2023.
