The public is invited to the NAACP Portland general membership meeting Saturday, May 22, 12:30-1 p.m. where a surprise public appreciation of former Susan G. Komen of OR & SW Washington President/CEO Andrew Asato, Cindy Fletcher, director of programs, Tai Harden-Moore, first African American Initiative program manager, and Kathy Kendrix, former Worship in Pink consultant, will take place.

Through their combined efforts, the African American Women’s Breast Cancer Initiative and Worship in Pink were successfully transferred to the NAACP Portland branch prior to the closure of Komen’s Oregon and SW Washington affiliate office in March of this year.

The Portland NAACP accepted both programs to ensure the continuation of vital women's health programs that are critical to building a stronger, healthier community and to ensure that Black women's health is recognized as a justice issue. The NAACP will begin identifying barriers and determining more equitable service delivery, overcoming biases and other institutional barriers that contribute to less access, fewer treatment options and poorer cancer outcomes for Black women compared to other women of color and White women.
