As the temperature climbs outside, many homebound seniors are struggling to keep cool in houses that have no fans or air conditioning. Each year citizens from throughout the greater Portland-Vancouver area respond to this need by donating fans to help keep frail elderly neighbors comfortable during the summer heat.

Meals on Wheels People is again asking for donations of new or gently-used fans to help keep homebound seniors cool and healthy as temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees later this week.

Fans can be brought to Meals on Wheels People Central Office at 7710 SW 31st Avenue in Portland between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Some neighborhood dining centers may also be open to accept fan donations. Check locations on the website and call for available hours.

About Meals on Wheels People

Meals on Wheels People has been changing lives, one meal at a time, since 1970. We provide more than a meal to thousands of older adults in the greater Portland metro area. Their service not only alleviates hunger and social isolation, but allows seniors to live independently with dignity in their own homes. Aging in place reduces depression, falls and hospitalization as well as the high cost of institutional care. For more information, visit: mowp.org.
