Portland, OR—“From the Grassroots”, a local radio magazine format show was awarded the west coast Hometown Media Award for Audio Programming/ Independent Producer. Two radio segments are also finalists in the east coast based Public Media Awards of Excellence. The Public Media Awards of Excellence will be presented in New York City during the 8th Annual People’s Film Festival on May 30th –June 1st.

The winning segments for Audio Programming/ Independent Producer were featured on a show dedicated to the late Curtis Mayfield’s critically acclaimed album Superfly. The episode includes political satire by LaNita Duke (The DNA Bleaching Kit), with political analysis by the Profit of Rage on voter suppression in Georgia.

The Faith Report, featured in the Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly episode, is also a finalist in The Public Media Awards of Excellence.

“From the Grassroots,” is broadcast live every other Friday on KBOO (90.7 FM). The bi-weekly show talent includes: The Professor Soul, The Profit of Rage, Faith Reporter, Nia Gray, mental health professional, Cheryl Jefferson, and show producer, LaNita Duke. From The Grassroots agitates for social change using music, commentary, satire and analysis to provoke thought and discussion .
