Rejoice! Diaspora Dance Theater presents “A Midsummer Night at the Savoy,” an evening in the night life of Harlem set to the rhythm of Shakespeare, featuring choreography by Oluyinka Akinjiola, Decimus, Michael Galen and Jamie Minkus.

Four choreographers, one story-line, plus a community ensemble will bring the energy of Harlem to Portland. Imagine Shakespeare’s “A Midnight Summer Night’s Dream” as a poetic through-line set in the historic Savoy Ballroom. Experience this twist on Shakespeare and the contributions of artists of color throughout history.

“A Midsummer Night at the Savoy” features Kevin Jones as the voice of Langston Hughes, and Dramaturgy by Brian and Nikki Weaver.
