The Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program (PAYLP) brings youth leaders and their adult mentors from Benin, Burkina Faso, Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Togo to the Portland metro community. Another group of youth leaders from five countries in Sub-Saharan Africa will arrive in Oregon next week and a few more host families are still needed, so please consider volunteering today! Help is needed to place participants in homestays across the Portland metro community.

It is possible to serve as an ambassador for Oregon this summer in the following ways:

  • Host a PAYLP Adult Mentor (all English-speaking)
  • Host a PAYLP high school participant (English or French-speaking)
  • Be a WorldOregon community ambassador by providing transportation support

Participants in this U.S. Department of State program are between the ages 15 and 18 and are recruited based on their outstanding academic performance and leadership potential. During their time in Portland, the students engage in workshops on leadership and service, community site visits, local cultural activities, and more. On evenings and weekends, they are spending time with their host families.
