MRG Foundation will celebrate eight months of learning, sharing, and growing through the Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy exhibit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 2800 NE Liberty St. at Concordia University’s Library & Learning Center. Admission is a sliding scale of $5-10.

The celebration, hosted by MRG Foundation in partnership with the Concordia University Foundation, will feature remarks from Kay D. Toran, a leader in philanthropy and the President and CEO of Volunteers of America Portland, and performances by 2017 Lilla Jewel Award winner Tazha Williams local artist Chat Addy and his band. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the power of giving back with supporters, activists, and community leaders. We look forward to seeing you there!

Giving Back illustrates Black philanthropic experiences and giving traditions, grounded in faith, mutuality, responsibility and social justice.  The exhibit is made up of over a dozen vignettes and more than 50 black-and-white images that depict facets of giving across generations. Images and stories are from the book “Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists” by author Valaida Fullwood and photographer Charles W. Thomas Jr.

Since its inception, MRG has amplified the voices of those most affected by injustice and hosting this event has allowed us to build upon this work. As a leader in racial equity and social justice, we are honored to have hosted and shared this exhibit and the conversations it inspires.
