"Challenging People to Shape a Better Future Now" is the cornerstone of the Skanner Foundation's mission. We are confident people can improve their future through the positive actions they take today rather than letting the circumstances of the past hold them back. Through our Scholarship Program, we help students accomplish their educational goals to ensure a bright and successful future within their communities.
Co-founders Bernard and Bobbie Foster established the Skanner Foundation in 1993 and have given in excess of $222,000 in grants, gifts, scholarships and donations. Both Bernie and Bobbie have demonstrated outstanding service in the community, setting a perfect example of the foundation's mission. Mr. and Mrs. Foster have owned and operated The Skanner Newspapers since 1975. The platform on which the newspapers were built parallels that of the foundation. By working in conjunction with each other, both the foundation and the newspapers have insured the success of both.
