ATLANTA (AP) -- The social justice organization founded by Martin Luther King III in the months after his mother's death will now function as part of the center she created to honor her husband's legacy.
King says in a statement that Realizing the Dream, Inc., which he started in 2006, has merged with The King Center for Nonviolent Social Change. He says the new partnership will allow his organization to expand its efforts toward global freedom, justice and equality.
King was named president and chief executive officer of The King Center last month. Realizing the Dream will function as the center's programmatic arm.
Coretta Scott King launched The King Center in 1968 after her husband was killed.
