Democrats and Republicans chant in unison: "Jobs, jobs, jobs." President Obama offers an American Jobs plan, but Republicans use the filibuster in the Senate to kill it and a Republican majority will not consider it in the House. House Democrats offered a heftier jobs bill, but it is ignored by the majority in control. We want to know what’s up with the unemployment rate, and with the changes that have taken place in the last month. Last week, our nation learned that we treaded water. The unemployment rate remained at a high of 9.1 percent, 8 percent for white folks, and 16 percent for Black folks. 
In the wake of President Obama’s address to the Congressional Black Caucus, there are those who are making much ado about nothing, including the accusation that, by dropping his “g’s” the President was talking down to African Americans. Can this President kindly get a break! 
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain professes to know why most African Americans don’t vote for Republicans – they are brainwashed. Cain’s decision to insult people he hopes will vote for him proves that he is both brainwashed and brain dead. 
I'm pleased, in fact, excited really, that our long-serving City Commissioner Saltzman, has now declared that he's going to 'watch very closely' the expenditures from city coffers. It's about time, and too bad, only occurred on Sept. 21, at the Portland City Council's historic vote on equity.
