The Duke Blue Devils won its fourth national championship last night against the underdog Butler Bulldogs in a stunning 61 to 59 victory.
The Bulldogs nearly clinched a victory in the final seconds of the game when Gordon Hayward barely missed a shot with less than 4 seconds left on the clock. When Duke's Brian Zoubek caught the rebound, Butler fouled and allowed the Blue Devils to score a single point at the free throw line.
Butler had one final chance to clinch the game when Zoubek missed the second free throw, and Hayward caught the rebound, taking a half-court shot at the buzzer that hit the backboard and rim.
Throughout the entire game, Duke never got more than a six point lead.
With a 34 percent shooting game in the semifinals, though, Butler coach Brad Stevens, 33, said he knew his team couldn't pull off a win against Duke without improving on it. Last night's game saw Butler hit 34.5 percent of their shots.
