Swimming: Cullen Jones Says Youth of All Colors Must Learn Water Safety
Olympic gold medal swimmer Cullen Jones had a narrow escape from drowning when he was just 5 years old. At a water park in Allenstown, PA, he came down a slide, shot underwater, and struggled to breathe until he blacked out. He didn't come to until his father pulled him from the pool and a lifeguard resuscitated him. It didn't faze him, he says. Jones visited the Wattles Girls and Boys Club this week to talk about why all kids should learn to swim, before bringing five of the boys and girls who attend the club to the Multnomah Athletic Club for a special swim lesson For all the information click here


Movie Review: The Help
Kathryn Stockett made an auspicious debut in 2009 with the publication of "The Help," a poignant period piece examining the unquestioned relationships of entitled, white socialites and their deferential black maids in Mississippi. Although the story is set in the author's hometown of Jackson in the early 60s, her best-selling novel is more fictional than autobiographical in nature. The screen adaptation unfolds from the point of view of Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis), a long-suffering nanny left bone-weary by a life spent "lookin' after white babies." Born in 1911, she is currently raising little Mae Mobley Leefolt (Emma and Eleanor Henry), a recent addition to a prominent Southern family … To read all about it click here
