Grand Floral Parade
Rose Festival activities continue this week with the Fred Meyer Junior Parade, and the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade. The junior parade will take over the Hollywood District on Wednesday, June 8. More than 10,000 children will continue the tradition set in 1936 to dance, drum, skate, bike, trike, unicike, scoot and stroller down Sandy Boulevard at 1 p.m. … To read the whole story click here

Library Researchers Work to Uncover Information about Portland's Negro Baseball Team
It's like something straight out of a pulp mystery novel. In the spring of 1946, Olympic gold medalist became the owner of the Portland Rosebuds – one of 10 baseball teams in the West Coast Baseball Association, an all-Black league. The association itself was owned by Abe Saperstein, the owner and one of the original founders of the Harlem Globetrotters. The Rosebuds – who shared a name with a professional hockey team in Portland 25 years before — played their first game against the Seattle Stealheads in a city that has never been considered to be a part of the West Coast – El Paso, Texas … To check the details click here


Make Juneteenth Your Celebration
Portland's Juneteenth festival connects us to Americans across the country, as we all celebrate together the abolition of slavery. Scheduled this year for Saturday June 18, it commemorates the date of June 19, 1865, the day when African Americans enslaved in , first learned that they were free.
