Sen. Carter with supporters from Las Vegas. Former state Sen. Margaret Carter held her annual community picnic on Aug. 14 in Northeast Portland, with visits from many notable community leaders – including the two men vying for the state's top job.
Democrat John Kitzhaber and Republican Chris Dudley both attended Carter's annual bash, which featured barbecue, a pastry contest, piñatas and games for kids and live music. Below: Sherry Baines, Carter, M.Sgt. Guy Baines and son, Taylor.
One of the gubernatorial candidates even got to show off his non-political skills (right). Kitzhaber – a medical doctor -- had more than just campaign work to do at the event when one attendee became ill. Unfortunately for Dudley (above with a fan) – a former Trail Blazer – there was no request to school picnickers on the basketball court. Below: State Rep. Lew Frederick with Kitzhaber.
