Willamette University law professor Robin Morris Collin will deliver the keynote address at The Skanner News 24th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, from 8:30am-10:30am, at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Portland.
She is the first U.S. law professor to teach "Sustainability" in a law school, and is a winner of the David Brower Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference as well as the Campus Compact Faculty Award for Civic Engagement in Sustainability.
Collin is the coauthor of a three volume "Encyclopedia of Sustainability: Environment and Ecology, Business and Economics, Equity and Fairness (forthcoming fall, 2009)," which she wrote with Robert W. Collin.
She has served as the founding chair of the Oregon Environmental Justice Taskforce, created by the legislature, and is a founding board member of the Environmental Justice Action Group of Portland, Lawyers for a Sustainable Future.
Collin co-founded the Conference Against Environmental Racism (CAER), and the Sustainable Business Symposium.
Past speakers include Stephen Coleman, the executive director of Washington Parks & People in Washington D.C.; Attorney General John Kroger, who addressed civil rights issues in Oregon; Charles Ogletree, faculty fellow emeritus at the Berkman Center for the Internet and Society at Harvard University, who spoke about the need for reparations for slavery; and Luke Visconti, co-founder and publisher of DiverstyInc magazine.
