Grand Central Bakery opened the doors to its newest location recently, with a grand opening celebration at the company's bakery and distribution center on the corner of North Fremont Street and Borthwick Avenue.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the bakery's opening weekend were donated to neighboring Boise-EliotElementary School, which will use the money to purchase nonfiction science and social studies textbooks to support its upper-grades reading program
The bakery, now in its second generation of family ownership, specializes in hearth-baked breads and pastries, sandwiches and soup. The company got its start in Seattle in 1972 and has since gone on to open six retail locations in Portland, including the new North Fremont bakery.
