The friends and family of Portland resident Kirk Alexander Dunn, 22, killed in a swimming accident Sunday on the Sandy River, have set up a bank account for contributions toward his funeral costs.
Dunn was with friends at the Sandy River near the Troutdale Bridge when he was swept downriver by a swift current. Calls for help went out at 6:12 p.m., and Dunn was pulled from the water south of the Lewis and Clark boat ramp by Gresham Fire at 6:42 p.m.
Transported to Legacy Mount Hood Hospital, Dunn was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.
Even though the summer season officially opens soon, waters in the rivers are cold, deep and fast moving.
Multnomah County Sheriffs are warning local residents that no matter how hot the weather may be, the current Sandy River temperature is only about 40 degrees, the Columbia River is approximately 50 degrees.
Dunn, whose family is devastated by their loss, thanks all who have supported them since the incident last weekend.
Contributions towards Dunn's funeral expenses can be made at the Wells Fargo Bank, 181 SE Stark St., to the Kirk Dunn Memorial Fund. For more information call Lionel Scott at 503-286-1064.
