Jimmie Green passed away on April 2, 2009, after courageously battling Congestive Heart Failure.

Jimmie was born in Ratio, Ark on Aug 18, 1923 to Harrison and Annie Mae Green. Jimmie joined the Navy in 1941 and served proudly on the USS Hydra. After World War II, he went to work for the VA hospital and worked there until he retired in 1983. Jimmie  joined the US Army Reserves in the 1950's and served honorabally until he retired in 1981. Jimmie met and married Almeta Cole in 1948 and  they were married for 41 years.  Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife Almeta, daughter Sheila Green and son Stephen Cole. Jimmie is survived by daughters Gail Green of San Dimas, CA; Donna Green Nickelberry and son-law Nolan Nickelberry of Seattle, Wa; Debra G. Roper and  son-law Gary Roper of Portland, Ore;  son Phillip Green and daughter-in-law Cynthia Green of Seattle, WA; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Jimmie also leaves behind his sister Jessie Tate of Portland, Ore; his Aunt Margaret Brooks of San Diego, CA and a whole hosts of nephews and nieces.  Jimmie lived a very good life after his retirement; he enjoyed gardening, travelling and being with his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday April 10, 2009 at Caldwells, Hennessey, Goetsch and Mc Gee Funeral Home and then a graveside services to be held at Willamette National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M

The family request that remembrances can be made to Urban League Multi-Cultural Senior Center 5325 NE MLK Blvd. Portland.
