Two shootings in Northeast Portland over the weekend — one of them deadly — have prompted community members to gather together to find a way to stop the violence.
The Three Corners Neighborhood Group — which encompasses the King, Eliot and Boise neighborhoods — has issued a neighborhood call to action, for 6:30 tonight, Feb. 9, in Hughes Memorial United Methodist Church, 111 N.E. Failing St.
The meeting is intended to "form a game plan on how to keep ourselves and our community safe," according to a flier posted near the homicide scene.
Robert Seegle, 24, was shot and killed late Saturday afternoon at the cornerofNortheast Failing Street and Garfield Avenue.
The following afternoon,police were informed of gunshots fired near the corner of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Failing Street. No onewas hurt, and no property was damaged,but the proximity of the two shootings hasled police to believe they may be connected. Witnesses have told officers that a group of men was seen running toward a silver or gray minivan in both cases.
