Helping out your neighbor is an integral part of living in a healthy community. The congregation of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church is doing its part to live up to this ideal with its first-ever "Be a Blessing" give-away.The event will offer, free of charge, items that everyday people need to get through their busy lives -- everything from new or "gently" used furniture, clothing (including back packs for young people), and other miscellaneous household items. All of the items are provided by church members. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the church, 3138 N. Vancouver Ave. --  just off the 405 Freeway from the Kerby Ave."As a way to give glory to God for being so good to us our members have agreed to have a 'give-away' as a way to help others," said Senior Pastor Matt Hennessee. "We recognize that as families prepare for school to begin, they may have a variety of unmet needs. Therefore, we would like to 'be a blessing' to everyone we can."We urge the community to come out, browse, fellowship, and 'shop' free of charge. We are honored to sponsor this event, as one of many ways we can give back to a city we deeply love. The way we wish to be 'paid', is that after visiting with us we urge you go out and do something special … for someone else. We are believers that the more you give, the more God gives to you." says the Church's senior pastor, Matt Hennessee. For more information, call Izora Green, 503-282-9496.
