A 14-year-old boy was critically injured in a shooting at around 5 p.m. Monday  by unknown assailants near the Lloyd Center.

The victim remains in critical condition at an area hospital. Many witnesses report that the victim was shot in the head.

Police initialing were told that several shots were fired in the area of Northeast 11th Avenue and Multnomah Street. When officers arrived they found the victim down on the NW corner sidewalk of Holladay Park. Medical personnel briefly treated him at the scene then transported him to an area hospital.

Detectives from the Homicide Detail and Gang Enforcement Team are investigating the case, but are unsure if it is gang-related or not. Witnesses report that the park was packed with young people at the time. At least one TriMet bus was driving buy at the time of the shooting, according to a witness who saw the shooting from the vehicle's window.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the shooting to call Detective Rico Beniga at (503) 823-0457.
