A message from Boyle Family Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk

On Oct. 9, the Oregon Historical Society celebrated its 14th annual History Makers Awards & Dinner, honoring three living leaders and one iconic organization that have positively shaped the history, culture and landscape of Oregon. This year OHS honored the legacies of trailblazing public servant, and former Oregon State Representative and Senator, Margaret Carter, visionary business leader and philanthropist Sid DeBoer, trauma care pioneer William B. Long, MD and beloved cultural icon the Oregon Symphony.

During the awards ceremony, over 300 in-person guests and viewers of the virtual livestream enjoyed inspiring profiles of each honoree, and watched History Makers receive their awards. A highlight of the night was when Margaret Carter accepted her award and treated guests to a song, which brought the audience to its feet. Her song, and the awards ceremony are now available on OHS’s website here.

History Makers is the largest annual fundraising event at the Oregon Historical Society, and sponsorships, ticket sales, donations and auction purchases support its mission. As a nonprofit organization, OHS depends on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and foundations to preserve the state’s history and advance knowledge and inspire curiosity about all the people, places and events that have shaped Oregon. Sponsors and donors contributed over $340,000 in operating funds.
