Artists Melvin Freeman, Jasmine Brown, and Takiyah Ward pose with Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Africatown visionary Wyking Garrett in front of one of the Murals at the Africatown Pop Up Plaza and Art Installation Aug. 3 at Midtown Center at the corner of 23rd and Union.

The small businesses there are scheduled to be demolished in 2019. Before that happens, the space is being utilized as a community gathering space to celebrate the rich African American history of the area.

The Mayor was there for the official ribbon cutting for the Africatown Pop Up Plaza and Art Installation.
