On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Alberta Rose Theater will host epidemiologist Dr. Frank A. Franklin for its next Science on Tap lecture.

The Science on Tap series features a rotation of experts invited to hold discussions on how everyday science sheds light on issues affecting local communities and the greater world.

In “Cause and Effect: Racism, Poverty, and Public Health,” Dr. Franklin, Director of the Community Epidemiology Services at the Multnomah County Health Department, will discuss how chronic exposure to adverse life events such as racism, gender-based prejudice, incarceration, and systemic inequity have tangible health effects on both individuals and communities.

General admission tickets are $15 or $8 with a student ID.

Doors open at 6 p.m., individuals under 21 may attend with a parent or guardian.

The Alberta Rose Theater is located at 3000 NE Alberta Street in Northeast Portland.
