Marisha Childs

Marisha Childs is excited to officially announce her candidacy for Multnomah County Commissioner, District 1.

Marisha has spent a majority of her life in Oregon, most of that in Multnomah County.  From having grown up in Troutdale, to attending college at Oregon Institute of Technology to graduating from the University of Oregon School of Law, and now living in District 1 for the past 11 years, Marisha – like many long-term community members - has seen many changes occur in Multnomah County, but has visions of something better.  Marisha is a lawyer, small business owner, mom engaged in her children’s school, and runner.

Marisha has served as an active member of the Reed Neighborhood Association for four years and has served as Chair for the past two; serves as the Legislative Advocate and a member of Cultural Enrichment Committee for the Winterhaven Parent-Teacher-Student Association; and is a board member of Oregon NOW.

As an attorney who has worked with our most vulnerable populations, including both youth in dependency proceedings and seniors with finding care and housing solutions, Marisha has great compassion and brings a unique perspective to the issues these populations face.

Marisha is focused on three primary issue areas with Multnomah County:

  1. Continuing to work with the City and State elected officials to ensure our community has available inventory of safe, accessible, affordable housing, having discussions with landlords and better defining “affordability”
  2. Better identifying seniors and those who experience difficulty with living independently with in-home mental health care
  3. Reducing the level of food insecurity, as well as the prevalence of food deserts, with a focus on children.  As a woman of color, Marisha wants to make Multnomah County a place where we can all feel welcomed; that means we need to walk into county offices and see people that look like us, regardless of our color.  It is time that we all have a seat as well as voice in the conversations that shape our community and future.

Marisha has been actively campaigning and is ready to go the distance for Multnomah County.  Marisha looks forward to engaging with more community members not only in District 1, but in all of Multnomah County.
