For Rent sign

The Portland Renters assembly is hosting two events two days apart from one another about the housing crisis and housing rights.

On Aug. 26 at the Midland Library, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., they are holding their 4th Portland Renters Assembly. This is a gathering for the houseless, the "just-a-renter"s, and precarious working-class home-owners. Anyone committed to housing as a human right is welcome. There will be speakers on organizing for housing justice, a chance to tell personal stories, small- and large-group discussion about political strategy and lines of action. Snacks and child-care will be provided.

On Aug. 28 there will be also be rally and (sidewalk) march to demand housing as human right and in protest of the many injustices that define our housing system. At 6: p.m. they will meet at the 4th Street entrance to Portland's City Hall in downtown. After hearing from some speakers, we will march across the Hawthorne Bridge to the Multnomah County Building just on the other side, where we will hold an mini-assembly for individual stories, group discussion, and music making.
