Classes start Monday for the Peninsula Park Wrestling Program, now into its fourth decade of after-school fun and focused activity.

Under the leadership of Coach Roy Pittman, the popular program serves boys and girls ages 4-18, with practice sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

"At the Peninsula Park Wrestling Club, you will gain a better awareness of how to compete on and off the mat, and how to push harder than you think you can," Pittman says.

"You will gain a greater awareness of how certain techniques can change negative patterns at school, and anti-social behavior."

The program last year sent 64 participants to the Western Regional Wrestling Tournament, and has served an estimated 70,000 kids over the decades.

Pittman says important lessons to be learned at the wrestling club include staying positive, finding balance, and being nice to others.

Classes start Monday, Sept. 17, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Park Community Center, 700 N. Rosa Parks Way. For more information call Peninsula Park at 503-823-3620, or reach Coach Pittman at 503-314-7884. http://peninsulawrestling.org/
